I watched the movie "Hair" again last night. It's one of my all-time favorites. A movie that helps us children of the '60s remember what the country was all about back then. Not only the angst of war protest, but the ease of living for people who somehow knew they could get by without hard work — or any work at all. That ease is gone now, of course. Here I've revamped one of the movie's songs to reflect that change...
The Age Of Austerity
We're at the dawning of an age of austerity
Age of austerity
Austerity!
Austerity!
When our credit cards are all maxed out
And real estate has gone a'bust
Then Sam cranks up his printing press
Because
He thinks
He must.
We're at the dawning of an age of austerity
Age of austerity
Austerity!
Austerity!
Ever rising fearful voices
Growing lists of lousy choices
Anger and misunderstandings
In a world of faux misbrandings
Endless phony estimations
To save trashed out reputations
Austerity!
Austerity!
Watch the pain spread, Watch the pain spread out
The pain spread out.
Watch the pain spread, Watch the pain spread out
The pain spread out.
Watch the pain spread, Watch the pain spread out
The pain
Spread out!
