Ben And Timmy
At The Bat

It looked extremely rocky for the Wall Street crowd last year,
Their piggery had caused a dive that raised depression fear,
Foreclosures, lost employment, tight-fist lending, ghastly numbers,
Now even long-time Beltway fans called Wall Street traders bumblers.

Would the best and brightest bear the name "economy destroyers?"
And worse, far worse, would they end up with government employers?
'Twas touch and go awhile, no one knew where things were at,
'Til Ben and Timmy stepped up, poised to take their turn at bat.

First they showered folks on Main Street, saying 'lo, the future shimmers,
Then backed this talk with blather about signs of current glimmers.
They squelched the Wall Street critics who'd been spewing nasty hoots,
By claiming less bad bad news was in fact just greener shoots.

It worked! Most folks were jollied by this rhetoric uplifting,
At the same time banks got trillions from Big Sam's unbridled gifting
Wall Street heavies, too, won hugely from a new stock market gush
As the loose-lipped heard the piper and made a buy side rush.

Alas this game soon ended, and the batters left the plate,
Leaving goverment awash in debt, poorer people to their fate,
Ben and Timmy's policies were seen as economic groaners,
Banks and Wall Street, though, thought otherwise, for them the boys hit homers.

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective. That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
