Moammar Gaddafi is coming to New York to speak at the U.N. No big deal. Lots of world leaders come to The Apple and stay a few days in a fancy hotel. Except this one sleeps in a tent he takes on all his travels. And when New Jersey officials indicated they didn't want him camping in their state, and New York nixed Central Park, the question arose — where does this guy pitch his house?

A Man And His Tent

In Jersey
Libya would dwell,
While visiting New York;
Gaddafi here would pitch his tent
And no one there would squawk;
Jersey folks ain't yes-men though,
They didn't like this plan;
Moammar ain't welcome here,
They said so—to a man.

The State Department was upset,
The UN took its swipe;
We'll pay the colonel's tentage rent,
They said — so what's the gripe?
No way, New Jersey to them cried,
We think this guy's a creep;
Inform that old Gaddafi guy,
He can't come here to sleep.

Is Central Park the rightful place
The colonel's tent to pitch?
Would this world leader take offense
If even this site's nixed?
Well personally my thinking here,
In weighing this man's wrongs,
I'd say a garbage dump is where
Gaddafi's tent belongs.

"Nowadays, you can't turn on the TV without some talking head telling you about the economy. Yet, in a world overrun by 'analysts,' only one man has the guts, the brains, and, quite frankly, the poetry to put it all in perspective.That man is Michael Silverstein... Silverstein is a true intellectual." — Gersh Kuntzman, The New York Post

"Few people have found much to laugh about in the stock market this year. Michael Silverstein is the exception. The Bard of the Bourse can find humor in losing money, globalization and stock options." — USA Today
