After dithering for more than a year, a Congress that purports to represent the best interests of the country has set out to reform the financial industry — with the help of the lobbyists representing that industry. What do you suppose will be the outcome of this effort?
None Dare Call It Reform
Here's a prescription for crises to come,
After law makers past loudly beat Wall Street's drum,
They turn for reform to that old K Street scrum,
Which assures the Hill crowd that real change would be dumb.
Watching Congress today, can't help make one glum,
The ridiculous games they still play with aplomb,
Talk big then do nothing, their coy rule of thumb,
It once made us angry, now leaves us just numb.
